Woollen Tree, Our New Shop On Etsy

(Photo of Wootton Creek at low tide)
At the end of last year I mentioned that there would be new exciting challenges and developments  for SWH and Wright-Turned  and that I would be making announcements at the beginning of 2015.
Well the first of these is to tell you about our new online shop on Etsy.
At the Woollen Tree we bring together our two crafts in wood and wool. Do please pop over and take a look. It is a work in progress and over the coming weeks we shall be stocking the shop with original pieces which we hope you will enjoy as much as we have enjoyed creating and making them.
We are working with natural materials and combining some of our designs to offer you simple items of beauty and rustic charm such as Hand Turned, Hand Knitted and Hand Woven Accessories and Homeware.

And a little more about what we do;
Sue of SWH (sue wright handknits) is a hand knitter, weaver and spinner, designing her own work.
- I love to use combinations of colour and yarn types to produce unique waistcoats along with knitted and woven bags, hats, scarves, warmers and socks. I also enjoy creating pieces of work on my loom such as, cushions, table runners, throws and small rugs. You can buy my work directly from me through my online Folksy shop  as well as craft outlets/shops on the Isle of Wight.

Peter of Wright-Turned Wood Turning
-Much of my work is made from "green" wood; therefore over time as it dries out naturally it may distort; this can lead to interesting shapes and adds to its uniqueness.

 It is great to be able to bring our two crafts together for you and we look forward to offering new designs and creating gorgeous things in wood and wool!

Saori Cloth Pots

With my cloth inspired by the "Seaweed, Wood and Stone", please see previous post. I made two Saori cloth Pots.

I love the way the wools have woven patterns and textures. I used some of my hand spun yarn and various blends and mixed fibres from my stash.  With Saori weaving there is no firm fixed grand plan or calculations, I just have to free up my mind, enjoy the process, enjoy the colours, feel the textures and  listen to my own creative voice and let the cloth happen.

To make the pots I decided to turn the cloth to a vertical view as I felt this gave another interesting dimension to cloth.
The pots are a soft loose form with great functionality!

 Saori  hand woven cloth pots are a great way to bring something a little bit special to your room. Used as a vase cover or plant pot holder or even a holder for your knitting needles, pens, pencils and crayons. Slips easily over jars/pots and bottles.
I will be making different sizes and designs to sell. The best thing is that each cloth pot will be unique and can stand alone offering a different and exciting way to enhance a room.
